EA DISCONTINUING IT’S ONLINE PASS POLICY
According to VentureBeat, EA will be discontinuing it’s controversial Online Pass policy. For the uninformed, online passes are the gaming industries half assed attempt to promote new game sales by locking all online content to those who bought the game used or pirated it.
EA’s John Reseburg admitted that Online Passes just don’t seem to be working. “Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format. We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
I hope this is true, but at the same time, I really hope this isn’t them finding a way to make room for just a bunch of micro transactions instead. I just don’t trust EA to actually do something that favors the consumers for once.
